Students enrolled in the Elementary Summer Enrichment School Program, co-sponsored between the Central Islip School District and Eastern Suffolk BOCES, were treated to an outdoor festival of activities. Parents were invited to join in the celebration where the students participated in a variety of activity stations to show off their academic and athletic skills to win prizes. Hopscotch, Twister, Basketball, Tower-building, KerBoom and designing bracelets were just a few of the activities depicted in this presentation. Students were treated to special presentations by Central Islip Fire Department. The Suffolk County Sheriff Department's K-9 13 Unit was a highlight of the festival, where trained canines demonstrated their special skills. Deputy Sheriff Kevin Tracy, who performed one of the two canine demonstrations, told students that his 'partner,' Agar, is a three-year-old German Shepherd, who works with him, and lives with the Tracy Family. Summer School Principal, Tracy Rentz-McLeod, said she was proud of all that the students and their teachers had accomplished during the Elementary Summer School Enrichment Program. Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Sharon A. Dungee, visited the outdoor celebration, and lauded the teachers for planning the enriching array of activities in which the students enjoyed engaging.
