During Reed Middle School's first faculty meeting for the year, on September 5, Principal Anthony Coggiano was surprised with a special presentation for his active participation in creating a Public Service Announcement (PSA) about Keep Islip Purple and the opioid addiction campaign. September is National Recovery Month. During September and particularly on September 13, the Town of Islip encourages residents and merchants to wear purple in memory of those lives lost, for those in recovery, and to the Islip families affected by mental health and substance use disorders. The award was presented by Donald Bahr, Jewel Jones, School Board Vice President Debra Cavanagh, Maria Lorandini, and also on behalf of the YES Dramatic Arts students, and Marc Soto. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee congratulates those involved in creating the PSA which conveys a most important message about keeping our youth and people of all ages educated and safe from the dangers of addiction.
