As part of the SEL, (Social Emotional Learning), component in the Elementary Summer School Enrichment program, students enrolled in the summer program were introduced to the Kindness Rock Project, which was started nationally by Megan Murphy. Elementary Summer School Enrichment Program Principal, Mrs. Tracy Rentz-McLeod, explained that The Kindness Rocks Project encourages people to leave rocks painted with inspirational messages along the path of life. "The students in the program loved creating and donating to our newest symbol of inspiration #CIthinkskindnessrocks," Mrs. Rentz-McLeod said. As part of their project, the students took a field trip from their summer school classes at Mulligan Elementary to the Alfano Elementary School with their teachers, where they gently placed their brightly colored, hand designed and painted rocks along a neatly manicured bed that surrounds the red maple tree that was planted in memory of the late Edie Joy Horan. Mrs. Horan's family joined the students and their teachers for the momentous occasion.
