Students in Mr. Patrick Murphy's Eighth Grade Honors American History Class discuss mobilization of the American people as we entered the Second World War, with special focus on the Greatest Generation, the enlistment of soldiers, rationing done at home, and the impact of women in the work force during the war. Students discussed the impact of Rosie the Riveter. Additionally, Reed Art Teacher, Mr. Michael Coniker, in a collaborative effort with Mr. Murphy, introduce Art into the American History Classroom. In Mr. Coniker's Canvas Painting Unit, which he created, students design original illustrations that depict scenes from American History or scenes from American Past. Over time, Mr. Murphy has collected over 15 student works which are prominently displayed as the backdrop in the classroom. Pictured are students in Mr. Murphy's Honors Class and Mr. Coniker's Studio Art Class.
