11/6/09: The Girls Varsity Soccer team ended the season on a high note with a win over 10/29/09: The Reed Middle School Football team won its first game of the year in dominating fashion. 10/24/09: The Varsity Football team took a big step towards trying to earn a trip to the postseason with a dominating 29-0 shutout over Sachem East. The Musketeers received outstanding efforts from various sources. The defense was led by Julian Ming (1 interception, 1 sack, 4 tackles) and Mike Cruz (1 interception, 4 tackles). Cruz led a well balanced offensive attack with 71 rushing yards and 47 passing yards from his halfback spot, including a 45 yard touchdown pass to Darrel Flores and a two-point conversion pass to quarterback Jameel Pierre. Pierre threw for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Flores was on the receiving end of two touchdowns and had 98 receiving yards to go along with his 67 rushing yards. Ryan Satchell had two receptions for 44 yards, including a 25 yard touchdown catch that gave CI a two touchdown lead in the 2nd quarter. 10/8/09: The JV Boys Soccer team, led by Coach Venturi, improved their league record to 5 -1 with a 2-0 shut out over Sachem North. The defense was led by Johnathan Rivera and William Chirino. Jorge Garcia scored his fifth goal of the season (Garcia had a hat trick earlier in the season). His goal was made possible by an assist from Herbert Artiga. Artiga added his own goal late in the game to clinch it for CI. Enrique Sorto has a team leading 6 goals on the season. Denzil Charles has stepped up his game immensely and has become a force the middle of the field. Kevin Lopez recorded 3 saves in route to his 1st JV shutout. According to Lopez, "I really didn't have to do much due to the awesome play of the defense". His praise of the defensive unit is a key element in the team's success. Freshman Jose Moreno has played well thus far and Johnathan Rivera is also having a phenomenal year for the Musketeers. 10/8/09: The Reed Middle School Girls tennis team lost to Eastport/S Manor. Coach Donovan said good performances were turned in by Alicia Hamilton, Karla Arizandieta, Noshin Khan, Chardna Jean-Baptiste, Megan Panebianco, Nia Gilliam, Mokshini Gobin, Nataly Fernandez and Gisselle Jimenez. 10/5/09: The Reed Boys and Girls Cross Country team came up short against 10/5/09: The Varsity Girls soccer team completed a sweep of Hampton Bays by a 4 - 2 score. The win was CI’s third straight. Cinthia Reyes opened the scoring at the 15-minute mark on a free kick that "rainbowed" into the goal. Hampton Bays' scored two unanswered goals before the Musketeers’ Patty Rodriguez tied the game on a breakaway goal late in the 1st half. The second half saw Hampton Bays come out very aggressively as they put constant pressure on the Musketeer defense. Junior keeper Gabby Zavala made most of her 15 saves during the second half. Along with defenders Ana Quintanilla, Ingrid Velasquez, Josselin Velasquez, Kim Barrera and Teresa Palencia, Zavala kept Hampton Bays scoreless in the 2nd half. Central Islip was able to take the lead for good as Rodriguez used her speed to break away from a stingy Hampton Bay defense to record her 2nd goal of the day. Rodriguez netted another goal eight minutes later for her 2nd hat trick of the season. The Musketeers are 3-1 in league play. 10/3/09: The Varsity Football team evened its season record (2-2) with a dominating 37-10 victory at Patchogue-Medford. The Musketeers opened the scoring with a first quarter 18 yard touchdown reception by Anthony Reynolds. Quarterback Jameel Pierre found Reynolds uncovered in the corner of the end zone and after a slight bobble CI took a 6-0 lead. Central Islip opened the game up late in the 2nd quarter. Pierre found Ryan Satchell for a 13 yard touchdown completion, and after a 2-point conversion CI led 14-3. The Musketeers recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. After Kadeem Barnes made a spectacular 38 yard catch, ripping the ball from a Pat-Med defender, Pierre capped the drive with a 2 yard touchdown run. The Musketeers again converted for 2 points and went into half-time with a 22-3 lead. Two second half touchdown runs by Darrel Flores closed out the scoring for Central Islip. Flores led CI with 131 yards rushing to go along with his two touchdowns. Reynolds had 3 receptions for 53 yards and Barnes snagged 5 catches for 85 yards. Pierre passed for 151 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 18 yards rushing to go along with his touchdown run. 10/1/09: The Reed Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country team defeated 10/1/09: The Varsity Girls tennis team lost a close match (4-3) to North Babylon. Atiya Tucker (2nd singles), Yanique Cambell (3rd singles) and the doubles team of Akira Miller and Cindy Trieu (2nd doubles) all won individual matches. Freshman Tara Johnson (4th singles) lost a close deciding match at 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. 9/30/09: The JV Girls soccer team shut out Hampton Bays by a 3-0 score. Goalie Leslie-Ann Harriot recorded the shutout for the Musketeers. The CI offense was led by Kirian Cisneros (2 goals) and Fanny Mendez (1 goal). 9/29/09: The Varsity Girls Cross Country team had seven student-athletes run personal bests in a meet at Sunken Meadow vs. West Islip. Some of the girls took 2-3 minutes off their time. Mise Pluviose, Wendy Vasquez, Ramatu Anwal, Kayla Johnson, Christina Granados, Karina Coreas and Diana Mejia look forward to continued improvement in a 10/6/09 match vs. Northport. 9/25/09: The Girls Varsity soccer team evened its league record at 1 and 1 after a close 3-2 victory over East Hampton. Cinthia Reyers, Chandon Rodriguez and Evelyn Perez scored for the Musketeers. Goalie Gabby Zavala had 11 saves. 9/15/09: The Girls Varsity soccer team begins play in League VIII with high hopes for a very competitive season. The squad of 18 consists of 12 seniors (7 returning varsity), 4 juniors and 2 sophomores. Starting forward and midfield positions are filled with experienced returning players. Seniors Cinthia Reyes, Chandon Rodriguez and Josselin Velasquez together with underclassmen, Shannon Doyle, Carolina Martinez, Evelyn Perez and Patty Rodriguez lead an effective unit. 9/12/09: The Varsity boys soccer team (1-0) defeated Copiague in penalty kicks in the first round of the East Islip Tournament. The game was scoreless after regulation and two overtimes. The Musketeers appeared to have a chance to win the game in the final seconds of regulation, however the horn from an adjacent field was misinterpreted by a Musketeer athlete on a break away. That disappointment was quickly overcome as CI scored on all five of its penalty kicks while holding Copiague to three penalty kick goals. Illner Reyes, Alan Gomez, Jorge Garcia, Kevin Mondragon and Jimmy Mercado scored the CI penalty kicks. Goalie Edgar Perez came away with the shutout for CI, including a full extension save on the first Copiague penalty shot. The Musketeer defense was led by Illner Reyes, Elvin Reyes, Anthony Durand and Jorge Garcia. Clarence Morant and Kevin Mondragon also played well in the season opener for the Musketeers. CI will face East Islip in the tournament final. 7/15/09:
The Musketeers played with 12 Seniors this season: Kim Barrera, Cinthia Reyes, Whitney McNamara, C.C. Rodriguez, Josselin Velasquez, Ingrid Velasquez, Zolanye Caldera, Evelyn Mejia, Joanne Mejia, Clarissa Mercado and Ana Quintanilla. These seniors have been tremendous role models to the underclassmen and Coaches D’Arcangelis and Brzozinski want to thank them for consistently demonstrating a highly competitive spirit, joy in victory, grace under fire in defeat, and overall good sportsmanship.
11/5/09: The Reed Middle School Girls Tennis team finished the season with a strong 7-0 win over Brentwood. Winning performaces were turned in by Chastity Taylor (1st singles), Noshin Khan (2nd singles), Nia Gilliam (3rd singles), Alicia Hamilton/Megan Panebianco (1st doubles), Chardna Jean-Baptise/Karla Aranzdieta (2nd doubles) and Mikshinni Gobin/Genesis Hernandez (3rd doubles). Coach Donovan looks forward to next season with the return of seven 7th graders.
10/31/09: The Varsity Football team returns to the post season with a qualifying round game at Sachem North. The game is Friday, November 6 at 7:00 PM. Sachem North is undefeated and the top seed in Conference I. The Flaming Arrows easily handled Central Islip during the regular season by a 54-6 score. Sachem North has a dominating running attack led by All-Long Island back Devon Lawrence. The Musketeers have strong senior leadership from the likes of Jameel Pierre, Kadeem Barnes and Earl Knowles. CI, which finished the regular season with a 3-5 record, will have to play mistake free football and win the turnover battle in order to compete.
10/31/09: The Reed Middle School Girls Tennis team lost a tough match to Paca by a 5-2 score. Chastity Taylor (1st singles) and Nia Gilliam (4th singles) won for Central Islip. Karla Arizandieta (3rd singles) and the team of Alicia Hamilton and Nataly Fernandez (1st doubles) lost close matches for the Musketeers.
10/29/09: The JV Boys Soccer team defeated Sachem North (1-0) in overtime to end the season with a 9-3 league record and 10-4 overall record. The Musketeers won their 2nd straight 1-0 game with their best goal of the season. Denzil Charles converted on a corner kick from Digno Iglesias by making a run from outside the 18 and by springing above the Sachem North defender, heading the ball into the top corner of the net. Charles’ goal capped off a wonderful season.
The CI soccer program looks to contend in the many years to come. The 8th grade team is currently 6-0-1 and according to Coach Dan Luciano is firing on all cylinders and extremely talented. The 7th grade team, coached by Paul Solaski, is playing much better and they have a 4-3 record so far. Additionally, the community will be starting the CENTRAL ISLIP SOCCER CLUB. Varsity coach Anthony LaRocca wants to emphasize that coaches Luciano and Solaski have been wonderful additions to the program. Their hard work, determination and dedication do not go unnoticed.
10/27/09: The JV Boys Soccer team continues to play well with a 1-0 shutout over Northport. The Musketeers avenged an earlier loss to Northport and improved their record to 8-3.
10/22/09: The Reed Middle School Girls Tennis team lost a well contested match against South Ocean Middle School by a score of 5-2. The Musketeers recieved winning performances at singles from Chastity Taylor and Alicia Hamilton.

10/13/09: The Reed Middle School Boys Cross Country team posted it third win of the season. The team was led by Jose Liz, Sam Medina, Quincy Greenwright, Brian McCarthy and Kevin Worth. Seventh Graders Nelson Perez and Jabez Nelson showed great fortitude while shaving over thirty seconds off their personal best times. The Girls Team came up short; however, their top scorers were Robyn Frank, Sabrina Reece, Chelsi Lue, Mikayla Brown and Shammeya Manson. Seventh Grader Danielle Shields improved her best time by more than two minutes.
10/13/09: The Reed Middle School Girls Tennis team played well in a losing effort vs.
10/10/09: Tyler Danzy and Adrienne Ming were victorious in the inaugural Town of Islip/Clayton Street Courts Mixed Doubles Tournament. Danzy and Ming defeated Joelmaia Carrasco and Taara Johnson in the finals. The Clayton Street courts have been refurbished due to the combined efforts of the Town of Islip and the Central Islip Civic Council. The entire Recreation Center on Clayton St. has undergone a facelift thanks to the many dedicated members of the Central Islip community. A special thanks goes to Councilman John H. Edwards and his staff, including Parks and Recreation Commissioner Greg Dawson, Recreation Program Coordinator Nancy Howland and USTA Coordinator Sue Kubelle for organizing the inaugural tennis tournament. Also attending the ribbon cutting ceremony were State Senator Brian X. Foley, Town of Islip Supervisor Phil Nolan and Councilmen Christopher D. Bodkin and Steven J. Flotteron. Central Islip High School tennis coaches Roy Pakett and Kevin Donovan, along with Director of Athletics Lawrence S. Philips are to be commended for volunteering their time and expertise. The student-athletes and their parents were instrumental in having the Town of Islip commit to make this an annual event.
10/10/09: The Varsity Football team lost a close contest against the defending Long Island champion Connetquot Thunderbirds. The Musketeers twice came back from two touchdown deficits before losing 27-20. Quarterback Jameel Pierre threw his thrid touchdown pass of the day to tie the score at 20-20 in the 4th quarter. CI missed the chance to take the lead with a missed extra point attempt. Connetqout scored on a 16 yard touchdown run on a 4th and one with 3:54 left in the game to clinch the win. Pierre was 10/15 for 134 yards for the Musketeers and Kadeem Barnes scored two touchdowns while grabbing 5 catches for 77 yards.
10/8/09: The Reed Middle School Boys Cross Country team won its second meet of the season. The top scorers for CI were Jose Liz, Sam Medina, John Vega, Quincy Greenwright and Brian McCarthy. The two student-athletes who improved their times the greatest were Jabez Nelson and Nelson Perez. The Girls team lost but had solid performances from Naomi Judge, Sabrina Reece, Robyn Frank, Chelsi Lue and Mikayla Brown. The Lady Musketeers most improved student-athletes for this meet were Jada Nelson, Alexa Zavala and Shammeya Manson. The team showed tremendous determination and class throughout the meet.
10/8/09: The Varsity Boys Volleyball team lost a tough match to #9 Northport (14-25, 22-25, 10-25). Senior Eric Ceretti had 9 kills and 5 solo blocks and Junior Stephen Wildner had 18 assists and 4 service aces. Junior Ryan Recher and Senior Tavon Massop had 14 digs each to lead the defense.
10/8/09: The Varsity Girls soccer team lost a heart breaker to Amityville (4-2). Despite leading 2 - 0 at the half the Musketeers could not hold off a strong Amityville counterattack aided by a stiff 2nd half wind at their backs. CI's early lead began when Cinthia Reyes crossed the ball to Patty Rodriguez, who one touched it in to the net. Eleven minutes later Reyes scored on a break away to put the Musketeers up 2 - 0. The second half belonged to the Amityville offense which retaliated with two quick goals in the first eight minutes of the half. Amityville scored twice more in spite of the thirteen saves made by CI keeper Gabby Zavala. The JV team has won three games in a row, led by keeper Leslie-Ann Harriot (3 shutouts).
10/6/09: The Reed Middle School Girls tennis team got off to a winning start by defeating
9/30/09: The Varsity Boys Cross Country team has had several team members achieve personal best times in meets vs. Walt Whitman, Northport and HHHE. The best times have been turned in by Andy Rodriguez, 22:00 and Deyvid Zavala, 22:01. George Briones lowered his time from 27:05 to 23:52, while Mac Retto has gone from 28:59 to 26:48. Team members Kendall and Kendrick Cleophat and Steven Quinones continue to show improvement.
9/30/09: The Varsity Girls soccer team improved their league record (2-1) with a 3-1 victory over Hampton Bays. Patty Rodriguez scored all three goals for the Musketeers. After a scoreless first half Rodriguez scored in the 44th minute. She followed with another goal 18 minutes later. Hampton Bays made it close as Lexi Radzuil scored off a rebound. The Hampton Bays rally was short lived as Rodriguez took the ball from the restart and scored four seconds later to complete her hat trick. Rodriguez’s third goal sent the fans into a frenzy and squashed any hopes for a Hampton Bays comeback. The Central Islip defense played well holding Hampton Bays to one goal.
9/21/09:
9/16/09: The Girls Varsity soccer team lost both games at the Bayshore Marauder Tournament. However there were some bright spots. C.I. keeper Gabby Zavala received the Golden Gloves award for outstanding goalkeeping during the tournament and Ana Quintanilla was named to the all tournament team in recognition of her excellent defensive work.
9/15/09:
9/14/09: The Central Islip Girls Varsity tennis team has graduated three of its top players, including All-Conference performer Taylor Danzy. The Musketeers have more depth than they have had in years, but are young and inexperienced. Two seniors who will be looked upon to provide leadership are Adrienne Ming and Atiya Tucker. A plethora of underclassmen round out the team, with hopes of regaining the success CI girls tennis has had over the past few years.
9/12/09: The Varsity football team (1-0) rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat Ward Melville by a 12-10 score in the season opener. The Musketeer defense did not let up any touchdowns in a dominating effort. Ward Melville scored a touchdown on an interception return and had a blocked field goal squeak over the cross bar. Jermaine Merchant, who scored both touchdowns and picked up 47 rushing yards, led a balanced CI offense. Darrel Flores led CI with 101 yards on the ground and Kadeem Barnes had 5 receptions for 103 yards. Flores also had a key interception on CI’s 1-yard line with less than three minutes to go in the game. Mike Cruz helped the Musketeers run out the clock with two first down runs in the final two minutes.
9/10/09: The Boys Varsity soccer team is extremely young this year. With a roster that includes seven 10th graders and one 9th grader the Musketeers hope a glut of talent will make up for a lack of varsity experience. Coach LaRocca said, "the squad is ready for the task at hand. The boys know what is expected of them." Leadership is going to have to come from seniors Alan Gomez (All League) and Jimmy Mercado. The defense will be the strength of the team and is solidified by cousins Illner (10th) and Elvin Reyes (11th). Fabian Delgado (12), Wilson Moran (11), Anthony Durand (10) and Jorge Garcia (10) round out a talented defense. Goalies Edgar Perez (10) and Juan (Paco) Serna (11) will be pushing each other in practice for playing time. In order for CI to make a playoff run they will need a breakout season from Clarence Morant. Morant spent much of the summer traveling up and down the East Coast playing soccer. Pedro Solorzano and Kevin Mondragon (10) are also expected to contribute early. Freshman Bartolo Montiel will see plenty of time at center mid and at times displays skills that make you forget that he is only 14 years old. Other skilled players on the roster include Gilberto Flores (10), Jovany Ventura (10), Elder Mendez (12) and Christian Rivera (10). New comer Orville Brown will provide needed speed at the top. Coach LaRocca and Assistant Coach Velez have been working tirelessly so the Musketeers can make a playoff run.
